Meet the Group

Take a moment to meet the group—some of us have worked together for decades. Our bench strength runs deep in all facets of marketing and communications.

We're in the business of inspiration, and we're passionate about our work!

Natalie Scholberg
Chief Leaf

After 15 years working in field sales for manufacturers and distributors, I grew weary of driving around with a carful of ineffective and untouched sales materials. I decided I’d like to be one of those marketing gurus developing sales promotions and campaigns that were relevant. Fifteen years later, I would argue that the real gurus are the ones who take the time and energy to run alongside the customer and really LISTEN. We do this. Then, we roll up our sleeves and get to work.

How do you recharge?

As much as I love cultivating brands for New Leaf, when I need to recharge, get me to solitude! Outside in nature. I don’t care if the weather is beautiful or brutal. You can drop me into the wilderness in a stand of trees, or plop me on my balcony in a sea of container plants … I just have to connect with God and nature. That’s where I plug in, and that’s where I recharge. I also love trail running, yoga and climbing.

My favorite quote:

“I would rather live in a world where my life is surrounded by mystery than live in a world so small that my mind could comprehend it.” -Harry Emerson Fosdick

Erica Cleveland
Graphic Design

To me, being a designer means helping a client figure out how to visually express their desired message, not with my flair, but with theirs. I enjoy each new challenge as if it is a jigsaw puzzle—piece by piece it always comes together. It’s like being a part of the stage crew behind the velvet curtain—I get just as excited when a client is proud of their new design and shows it off to the public.

How do you recharge?

I’m still trying to figure this one out…naturally all I can think about is sleep! Having little ones in the mix of life definitely doesn’t leave much time for recharging (in fact, I’d like to bet they recharge their little batteries by zapping it from me!) When I am able to steal away, I do enjoy going on a walk or watching a good movie at home with the hubs.

My favorite quote:

“The urge for good design is the same as the urge to go on living. The assumption is, somewhere hidden, there’s a better way of doing things.” -Harry Bertoia

Wanda Speer
Brand Strategy

I am a marketer at heart and a passionate brand evangelist. I’ve spent the vast majority of my career helping companies grow their brands. Whether we’re talking personal brand, product or corporate brand, I absolutely love collaborating with people to identify, personify and bring their brand to life! I carry with me a unique marketing perspective, having worked on the agency, vendor and corporate sides of the business. From high-level marketing strategy and brand development, to the roll-up-your- sleeves tactical stuff like copy, design and production, I enjoy position-playing for New Leaf and achieving excellence for my clients.

How do you recharge?

When I need some “me time”, I head into the kitchen where I feel most at home. I love cooking, baking and experimenting with new things like a mad scientist! Celebrating and sharing with friends and family restores and refuels me, and watching them enjoy my food gives me great satisfaction. I don’t sit still much, and I’m always seeking new learnings and creative outlets.

My favorite quote:

“Vision without action is a dream. Action without vision is simply passing the time. Action with vision is making a positive difference.” -Joel Barker

Thomas Gentry
Film / Photography / Website Design

Although I’ve worn many hats in the audio visual realm, my happy place is behind the camera, composing and lighting the best shot possible. My wife and I work best as a team. Whether we’re on set or behind the computer designing a website, we enjoy the challenges of working in a variety of different tech-based environments. Each project, with its unique set of challenges, offers us a way to hone our creativity and solve problems together. We’re both recovering perfectionists who, no matter the scale, treat each project with the same vibrancy and care.

How do you recharge?

After finishing a deadline, you’re likely to find me canoeing or belting my best rendition of “9 to 5” at a local karaoke bar. If I’m not doing either of those, there’s a good chance I’m backpacking and will be out the office until further notice!

My favorite quote:

“No man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.” —C. S. Lewis

Julia Gentry
Film / Website Design

A lover of details and fonts, I spend most of my time as a filmmaker/editor, working alongside my husband. Assembling footage and interviews into a final cut presents the opportunity to offer others a way to find connection and sameness through vulnerability. My favorite part of the editing process is transforming a nervous, camera-shy interview into an empowering visual story. I’m inspired by those who use their resources to love others and I aspire to use the medium of film to bring wonder, hope and whimsy to audiences.

How do you recharge?

If I’ve been holed up editing all day, I try to get out to see friends, karaoke or dance around the house to feel balanced. I love to unwind with a book and a cup of tea or by practicing yoga. Hiking to remote locations and sleeping outside is also great therapy.

Marketing and Digital Strategy/Execution

I am passionate about Inbound Marketing and Integrated Marketing solutions! The truth is, they just make sense to me. I come from a traditional PR, marketing, and advertising sales background. Several years ago I was taking an Inbound Marketing training and the light bulb went off! Attracting clients to your brand and providing them with reasons to search for you seemed so obvious to me, and there was no arm-twisting involved! Ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you that my passion is for all things digital. I am a social media enthusiast who is married to a traditional marketer. Makes for some interesting conversations!

How do you recharge?

I love reading and watching mysteries, being with my family and connecting with friends. For eight years I have been part of a weekly bridge group.  I have been on the Board of Social Media Dallas for two years and served as a volunteer with the organization since 2009. Love to keep learning!

David Womack
Video and Animation Production

I love taking an idea that is in someone’s head and bringing to fruition.  I’ve been in the digital creative field for about 20 years.  The first half was in the video game world creating 2d and 3d visuals.  Then for the last half I’ve had the pleasure of making video for great clients, companies, and ministries.  Motion graphics and video production is where it’s at.  I contribute most of my deep knowledge in the creation process to working in startups and ministries for so many years.  If we wanted it to be great, we just had to give it some love.  Do that enough, with enough passion and perseverance, and you learn a lot.

How do you recharge?

I have a weekend uniform of tri-blend shirts and camo shorts. Grilling and swimming with my wife, 2 sons and friends is a weekend tradition for us. I’m a Dallas Cowboy fan and if the NFL is on, you can bet I know the score ;). I haven’t played as much lately, but I still have aspirations to be on the Olympic US men’s sand volleyball team.  I do love the TV too.  Breaking Bad was the best series ever made.  I’m fascinated at Pixar movies, all the love and care that goes into every frame is inspiring.

Get me outdoors or get me in the kitchen. Whether it is hiking, mountain biking, road cycling, or my latest obsession SkiBiking, I love being in the mountains and enjoying all that God has created. I volunteer as an adaptive snow sports instructor, helping people with various abilities enjoy the slopes. When I am with my family, I love to cook. I love to tell stories – what happened to whom and why it matters. In 15 years as a freelance writer, I’ve divided my time between writing feature articles for national publications and creating marketing communications for corporate clients. I thrive on showing the human side of business and technology and making them accessible.

On the corporate side, I’ve run the gamut from newsletters and collateral pieces to presentations and website copy. I’ve also collaborated on Track Marketing, a book on marketing strategies.

How do you recharge?

Recharging for me takes many forms, from growing hot peppers in my vegetable garden to cooking up those spicy peppers in a savory Cajun dish. I grew up on the water and grab any chance I have to hit the lake for some boating or fishing. A Louisiana native, I love getting back to my roots and visiting family and friends down south for great food, music and dancing.

Media Planning and Buying

I believe a client’s media strategy is revealed after careful evaluation of the client’s objectives, the target audience, their media usages, the geography and competitive data. I suppose you could call me an analytical nerd because I enjoy slicing and dicing the data to come up with the most effective media recommendations.

With over 30 years of rock-solid strategic media planning and buying experience, my skills include the ability to develop unique media strategies. I put the media “puzzle” together and implement and maintain all aspects of media buying including strongly negotiated buys and value-add opportunities.
